Soprano Sue's Sightings

I recently met up with Steven R. Schirripa who plays the character of Bobby "Bacala" Baccierli, Uncle "Junior" Corrado Soprano's (Dominic Chianese) right hand man in The Sopranos.    Steve has been a very busy man, after all, he already has had a New York Times best seller book, "A Goombas Guide to Life" and on November 4, 2003, his newest book, "A Goombas Guide to Love" will be released.    Steve presently lives on both coasts of the United States, Las Vegas, Nevada and in the New York area, when they are filming The Sopranos on location.

What day is your birthday?

September 3

What inspired you to be a writer?

I had a lot of funny stories to tell. When I was out I would tell these stories and my friends said I should write a book about the "Goomba world", since nobosy had written a book on this subject.    Some of the stories I had already written down.   I thought it would be funny to "hit the goomba on the head". It would be fun to write a book about it.

Your first book was a "Goombas Guide to Life", what qualifications do you possess that make you a likely expert about this subject?    After all, you live in Las Vegas?

I grew up as a "young goomba" in Bensonhurst. For the first 20 years of my life is what made me an expert.    After I moved to Vegas, I saw many "goombas" that weren't even from New York and that made me an expert.

Your second book, "A Goombas Guide to Love", what can we expect from this one?

Dating tips; open the car door, don't open the car trunk, steal a kiss, don't steal her purse.    There are lists of things "Goombas" would never say to his wife or a "goomba" mother to her son.   Lots of gag lists, and a lot of real stories that are so funny and some that aren't about "goomba" relationships.   All the things a "goomba" wife loves, the kids, the food, their mothers and "goommattas".

Who are your favorite cast members to work with?

Dominic Chianese (Uncle Junior Corrado Soprano), Aida Turturro (Janice Soprano), and James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano), that's who I work with primarily.

What hobbies do you do in your valuable spare time?

I eat, spend time with the kids and I am a Yankee's fan.

If there was any vehicle you could own, which one would it be?

It would be what I own now, a Mercedes SL450

What acting role would you consider a dream come true?

Something serious, where I can be nasty in a movie. I'd like to be a nasty mean guy, not comical.

You are going to be stranded on a desert island, you are allowed one of your favorite dishes, one music album, and one piece of clothing, what would be your choice?

Meatballs from Rao's Restaurant, Best of Frank Sinatra, and a long sock

If you died and you could have your choice of coming back as something else, someone else, or any type of animals, what would be your choice?

I'm fine just I am

Do you have any favorite charities?

Starlite Foundation and Heartshare

How do you feel about being a part of the huge success of The Sopranos?

The best thing that could ever happen, you couldn't ask for a better work environment with better people.

What was one of your favorite moments on the set of The Sopranos?

When I got the part, the call to say that you were a regular cast member.

What made you choose to become an actor?

It kinda choose me, more of a hobby. The more I did, the more I wanted to do it.

What role would you most want to play?

The Joseph R. Gannascoli Story
