The Third Season of The Sopranos brought us several new characters, one of which was Benny Fazio, who is part of Tony Soprano’s crew.    Benny was assigned not only at one point to sit in Carmela’s backyard and shoot a bear if it came around, his character was also is responsible for the killings of Stanley and Credenza in the final episode of season 3.   Max Casella plays the character of Benny Fazio.


Max Casella in the movie "Ed Wood"Max Casella has been bitten by the acting bug since he entered his teens.   A veteran of the stage and film, he was part of the original cast of “The Lion King” and won the Theater World Award for “Outstanding Broadway Debut” as well as a Drama Desk Nomination.    We all remember his portrayal of "Vinnie Delpino" in the 1989 television series “Doogie Howser, M.D.", but he has also made appearances in, “Analyze This”, “Ed Wood”, “Queens Supreme” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”.  Max lent his voice to  the character of “Daxter” on the Play Station 2 Game, “Jak and Daxter”.

I had a chance to ask Max a few questions.   

When is your birthday? 

June 6

Tell us a little about where you grew up and your background.   Where did you grow up?

I was born in Washington, DC, I grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts but I consider my self a New Yorker

Tell us something that people don’t know about you?

Oh God, I’m a video game maniac addict

Are you of Italian decent?

½ Italian  ½ Jewish

How did you get involved with being an actor?

When I was 12 years old I did a play for high school, even though I wasn’t in high school yet, and I really liked that . Up to that point I was into drawing and I thought I was going to be an artist.   Then I just liked acting a little too much, so I started doing a lot of plays in and around the Boston Area. When I graduated high school I moved to New York City, got a agent and started to pursue it full time

What was your most memorable acting job?

The last one I did a play called "Souls of Naples" starring John Turturro and Aida Turturro (Janice Soprano) is also in it. That was pretty amazing for me.

What types of roles on the show do you find the most challenging?

Roles that I find the most challenging are the ones that are most badly written

Sue: Not with the Sopranos?

Never challenging, the writing is excellent

What other unusual jobs have you held in the past?

I used to do maintenance worker at theater and bagged groceries, telemarketing sales that kind of stuff, nothing too interesting

Do you have any pets?

I used to have a cat
What do you enjoy about filming in the Garden State of New Jersey?
New Jersey is beautiful and great. I like it, we go to all different places; some are nicer 
than others

I play video games
